Pet Resources

Found a Stray?
Palmetto Animal League does
not accept surrender requests for stray animals. If you have found a stray cat or dog, please follow the steps below to help reunite the pet with its owner and comply with local requirements.
Step 1: Check for a Microchip
If possible, take the animal to a local veterinary clinic or animal shelter to have them scanned for a microchip.
- If the animal has a microchip that traces back to Palmetto Animal League, please email info@palmettoanimalleague.org with:
- Microchip number
- Description of the animal
- Date and location found
- Where the animal is currently staying
- Best phone number to reach you
If no microchip is found or the owner cannot be contacted, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Report the Found Animal
Contact the county animal shelter or animal control agency for the jurisdiction where the animal was found. Reporting the animal is required to begin the official stray hold period and allows any potential owner the opportunity to reclaim their pet.
If you are unsure which agency serves your area, contact your local county government office or search online for “animal control” or “animal shelter” along with your city or county name.

Palmetto Animal League does not hold a county contract and cannot accept stray surrender requests.
Step 3: If the Animal Remains in Your Care
If no owner comes forward after the stray hold period and the animal remains in your care, you may submit an Owner Surrender request using the appropriate Dog or Cat surrender form listed below.
Support for Pets and the People Who Care for Them
Whether you’re looking to adopt, foster, surrender your own pet, or need guidance after finding a stray animal, these resources are here to help. Our goal is to support pets in need while guiding our community through responsible, compassionate next steps.
Adoption Application Forms
Dog Adoption
Looking to welcome a dog into your family? Our Adoption Center is home to dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities — all waiting for loving homes.
Each dog receives medical care, daily enrichment, and behavioral support while in our care. Our adoption team is here to help you find the right match and guide you through the adoption process.
Cat Adoption
From playful kittens to calm adult and senior cats, our Adoption Center is full of cats ready for a second chance.

All cats receive medical care and daily attention while waiting for adoption. Our team is happy to help you find a feline companion that fits your home and lifestyle.
Foster Application Forms
Dog Fostering
Foster homes are critical to helping us save more dogs. Fostering provides a temporary home for dogs who may need extra time, medical recovery, or a quieter environment before adoption.
PAL provides guidance and support throughout the foster period, you provide the love and care.
Cat Fostering
Cat fosters play a vital role, especially for kittens, nursing mothers, and cats who benefit from a home environment. By opening your home temporarily, you help free up space at our Adoption Center and give cats the best chance at a successful adoption.
Pet Surrender Forms
Dog Surrender
We understand that life circumstances change, and sometimes pet owners are no longer able to care for their dog.
When you submit a surrender request, we ask that you keep your dog in your home while we review your application. This allows us time to explore resources, potential rehoming options, and determine whether we have space available at our No-Kill Adoption Center.
Please note that space is limited, and we are unable to accept every surrender request. In some cases, we may offer alternative rehoming support.
Cat Surrender
If you are no longer able to care for your cat, Palmetto Animal League offers compassionate guidance and support.
Keeping your cat in your home while your request is reviewed helps prevent unnecessary shelter intake and allows us time to identify the best possible outcome for your pet.
Due to limited space, not all surrender requests can be accepted.
